In the winter of 2022, the life of 26-year-old Autumn Alexandria Kirkpatrick was tragically cut short in what authorities have described as a double murder-suicide. The devastating event unfolded on December 19 in the Lorson Ranch neighborhood of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The day before the fatal incident, Autumn's friend, 27-year-old Vanessa Anderson, had sought assistance from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
Described as 'frantic,' Anderson had requested a law enforcement escort to safely remove her belongings from the home she shared with her ex-boyfriend, Wilmer Soto. However, she was informed that without evidence of a direct threat or prior violence, a 'keep the peace' order from a judge would be necessary for a deputy to be present.
Tragically, the following day, Anderson, accompanied by her friend Autumn Kirkpatrick, returned to the residence in the 9800 block of Rubicon Dr. without the court order. It was there that Soto opened fire, shooting both women before barricading himself inside the house.
Law enforcement responded to reports of the shooting and a barricaded suspect. After unsuccessful attempts to communicate with Soto, SWAT members entered the home hours later to a grim discovery. Inside, they found the bodies of Autumn Kirkpatrick, Vanessa Anderson, and Wilmer Soto. The investigation concluded that Soto had murdered both women before taking his own life. Court records later revealed that Soto's ex-wife had previously obtained a protection order against him for domestic abuse, though it had been dismissed a year prior to the tragic events.
