In the winter of 2022, the life of 30-year-old Nicole Renee Vasquez, a White/Caucasian female, was tragically cut short in what police determined to be a murder-suicide. The incident unfolded on the morning of February 17th inside a residence in the 4700 block of Live Oak Drive in Colorado Springs, Colorado. First responders arrived to find both Nicole and 32-year-old Esteban Vasquez suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both individuals were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention.
Esteban Vasquez succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. His death was later ruled a suicide by the El Paso County Coroner's Office, resulting from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Nicole Vasquez fought for her life for two more days before she passed away from her injuries on February 20, 2022. An autopsy confirmed that she died from a gunshot wound, and her death was officially ruled a homicide.
The investigation conducted by the Colorado Springs Police Department's Violent Crime Section Homicide/Assault Unit concluded that Esteban Vasquez was the perpetrator in the shooting. As the sole suspect in Nicole's murder took his own life, no arrests were made in connection with her death. The case was closed as a murder-suicide, leaving behind a community to mourn the loss of Nicole, who was remembered as a bright and caring individual. Her death marked the 10th homicide in the city of Colorado Springs for that year.
