In the quiet community of Colorado Springs, a tragedy unfolded that left a family shattered and a community in mourning. On October 30, 2021, 50-year-old Yvette M. Siegert-Kreb, a female, was found deceased in her home in what authorities would later describe as a murder-suicide. The grim discovery was made after a distressing 911 call from one of the younger children in the house, reporting that someone was seriously injured.
When El Paso County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the
residence on Pleier Drive, they were met with a horrific scene. Inside, they found the bodies of Yvette, her 13-year-old daughter Felicity Kreb, and her 9-year-old son Barrett Kreb. The investigation quickly pointed to Yvette's husband and the children's father, 55-year-old Christof M. Kreb, as the suspect. Authorities believe he took the lives of his wife and two children before taking his own. Christof M. Kreb was also found deceased at the scene.
Yvette Siegert-Kreb was remembered as a dedicated and compassionate individual. A retired neonatal intensive care unit nurse and a veteran of the U.S. Army, she was described as a tireless advocate for mistreated and neglected children. This passion was evident in her own family, as she and her husband had adopted six of their eight children. Friends and family recalled her as a loving mother who was deeply devoted to her children, particularly those with special needs, as they had specifically chosen to adopt children with dwarfism.
The motive behind the tragic event remains unclear, though friends of the family mentioned that the isolation and stress of the COVID-19 pandemic had taken a toll on the family. In the aftermath, the surviving children were placed in the care of close family friends, and a GoFundMe was established to support their future education and mental health needs. The community was left to grapple with the devastating loss of a mother and her children in a violent act that ended a family's story far too soon.
