On the evening of July 22, 2005, Chauntee Lamont Johnson, a 28-year-old Black / African American man, was in the parking lot of the Suns Market located at 8707 SE Division Street in Portland, Oregon. At approximately 7:52 p.m., he was seen talking to two other African-American males who were inside a blue, early 1990s model Ford Escort LX.
According to witnesses, the conversation took a turn, and Johnson began to back away from the vehicle with his hands raised.
It was at this moment that the passenger in the car fired a gun, fatally wounding him. First responders arrived to find Johnson lying in the parking lot, having succumbed to an apparent gunshot wound.
The vehicle carrying the two suspects was last seen driving south on Southeast 87th Avenue from Division Street. Despite the presence of witnesses, the suspects managed to flee the scene and have not been publicly identified. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The case remains an unsolved homicide, and authorities continue to seek information from the public that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the individuals responsible for Chauntee Lamont Johnson's death.
