On the evening of January 10, 2015, Larry Westbrook, a 30-year-old Black male was shot at the Coconut Grove Apartments in Phoenix, Arizona, and later died from his injuries. Public case summaries list his death as a homicide that occurred at 2030 W. Indian School Road, a multi-unit apartment complex near 20th Avenue and Indian School Road in central Phoenix.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., residents of the complex reported hearing multiple gunshots.
Witnesses later told investigators they saw several people running from the area immediately after the shots were fired. Those fleeing were described collectively as several Black males accompanied by at least one White male, but no additional details such as clothing, approximate ages, or vehicle information were made public.
Phoenix police classified the case as a homicide, and Silent Witness issued a bulletin naming Westbrook as the victim, giving his age and the precise location and time of the shooting, and noting that the group of men seen running from the scene may have been involved. The bulletin emphasized that callers could remain anonymous and offered a cash reward for information leading to an arrest or indictment, encouraging tips through both English and Spanish hotlines.
Despite these appeals, the case remains unsolved. Silent Witness and subsequent summaries of the incident continue to list the suspect as “Unknown,” and local coverage has referred to Westbrook’s killing as one of the Valley’s unsolved January cold cases, indicating that no one has been publicly identified, arrested, or charged in connection with his death.
