In the early morning hours of December 11, 2017, the life of 28-year-old Taylor Chantel Wheeler, a Black / African American female from Huntington, West Virginia, was tragically cut short. Wheeler was discovered inside her apartment in the 1300 block of 5th Avenue, the victim of a fatal shooting. Huntington police responded to the scene around 12:45 a.m. and found her deceased, marking the city's 19th homicide of the year.
