In the early morning hours of February 24, 2008, in Des Moines, Iowa, the life of 18-year-old Richard Lewis, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. Lewis was inside a car near the downtown area with his friend, 18-year-old Damont Jackson, when gunfire erupted around 2:40 a.m. The shots proved fatal for Lewis, while Jackson sustained a leg injury that required surgery but was expected to recover.
