On May 28, 2018, 17-year-old James Alexzander Shorter of Des Moines, Iowa, tragically lost his life in an accidental shooting. While seated in a car with his girlfriend, James was handling a handgun when it discharged, striking him in the neck. He was immediately transported to Mercy Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries during surgery.
