In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Prairie City, Iowa, the life of Harmon "Wes" Wright III, a 30-year-old White male, was tragically cut short. On October 9, 2016, in what was later determined to be a murder-suicide, Wright was fatally shot multiple times. The incident unfolded at a residence on North Orchard Street, shaking the quiet community.
The chain of events began with a 911 call made by 32-year-old Chris Tetrick.
In his call to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, Tetrick stated that he was going through a divorce and had found Wright in his wife's bed and had shot him. He also indicated to the dispatcher that he was considering harming himself.
Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered Wright's body in the basement of the home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Tetrick was found in a detached garage on the property with a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, along with local law enforcement, processed the scene. The state medical examiner later confirmed the event as a murder-suicide. Wright, an electrician by trade, was remembered as a loving father and a friendly individual.
