On the evening of August 21, 2022, a sense of tragedy befell the city of Waterloo, Iowa, with the death of Johnnie Murrell Rose, a 32-year-old Black / African American man. In the late hours, shortly after 10:15 PM, authorities were dispatched to the 100 block of West 5th Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Rose suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders at the scene provided immediate medical aid to Rose before he was transported to a
local hospital for further treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Johnnie Rose ultimately succumbed to his injuries, his life cut short by an act of gun violence. The incident prompted an immediate investigation by the Waterloo Police Department as they began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
In the aftermath of Rose's death, the Waterloo Police Department made a public appeal for assistance in their investigation. They urged residents and businesses in the vicinity of the shooting to review their surveillance footage for any activity that might be connected to the case.
