On the evening of August 21, 2022, a sense of tragedy befell the city of Waterloo, Iowa, with the death of Johnnie Murrell Rose, a 32-year-old Black / African American man. In the late hours, shortly after 10:15 PM, authorities were dispatched to the 100 block of West 5th Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Rose suffering from a gunshot wound.
