Micalla A. Rettinger, a 25-year-old former star softball player for the University of Northern Iowa, met a tragic end on April 28, 2019. She was driving south on Highway 218 near the Brinker Lake and Cedar River bridges in Waterloo, Iowa, when her life was abruptly cut short. Early Sunday morning, a single bullet pierced through the driver's side window of her vehicle and struck her in the neck. Despite immediate efforts, Micalla Rettinger died at the scene.
