On a spring evening in New Haven, Connecticut, the life of 44-year-old Otis Lee Powell Jr. was brought to an abrupt and violent end. On May 17, 2014, at approximately 9:43 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the night near 465 Winthrop Avenue. When police arrived at the scene, they found Powell near the doorway of a business, TJ's Custom Designz, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
