On March 24, 2014, 17-year-old Taijhon Washington was fatally shot near the intersection of Butler and Lilac streets in New Haven, Connecticut. His 16-year-old half-brother, Travon, sustained a gunshot wound to the head but survived. The incident occurred near Lincoln-Bassett Elementary School, with both victims found lying on the sidewalk.
