On a late Saturday night in June 2019, the life of Mark Alan Moore, a 29-year-old Black/African American male, was irrevocably altered. Shortly before 11:40 p.m. on June 8th, the sound of gunfire pierced the air in the Hill neighborhood of New Haven, Connecticut. Police were alerted to the shooting on Button Street through 911 calls and a ShotSpotter notification.
Arriving at the scene between Spring and Putnam Streets, officers discovered Moore inside a parked car, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Paramedics rushed him to Yale New Haven Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, Mark Alan Moore succumbed to his injuries the following afternoon, on Sunday, June 9, 2019, with his family by his side. His death was officially ruled the city's fourth homicide of the year, launching an investigation by the New Haven Police Department's Detective Bureau. In the days and months that followed, authorities publicly asked for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward, but no arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting. As of late 2020, the case remained unsolved, leaving his family without answers.
Born and raised in New Haven, Mark was a father to four children. He was pursuing a new career path, attending the NETTTS Truck Driving School while also working at C and S Wholesale Foods. Those who knew him remembered his passion for fashion and rap music, but his greatest love was for his children. His death was the second tragedy to strike his parents, Mark and Helena Moore, who had previously lost another son to violence. The investigation into his death remains open, as his family continues to seek justice.
