On a Sunday night in June of 2020, events turned tragic for 29-year-old Robert Lee Joines, a male resident of New Haven, Connecticut. On June 7th, at approximately 10:10 p.m., the sounds of gunfire pierced the air in the 1300 block of Quinnipiac Avenue. When police and firefighters arrived at the scene, they discovered a large crowd gathered in a parking lot.
Inside a vehicle amidst the gathering, they found Robert Lee Joines suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital in an effort to save his life. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The incident, which occurred outside 1378 Quinnipiac Avenue, marked the city's fourth homicide of the year.
In the aftermath of the shooting, New Haven police began an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. Detectives canvassed the area and appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the person or persons responsible for this act of violence. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case.
