On June 15, 2021, 21-year-old Richard Whitaker Jr. was fatally shot near Columbus Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut. Responding to a ShotSpotter alert and multiple 911 calls around 8:24 p.m., police found Whitaker wounded inside a residence on Thorn Street. He was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
