In the early hours of January 21, 2023, a burst of gunfire in a shopping plaza parking lot on Whalley Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut, tragically ended the life of 33-year-old Michael Wint. A Black / African American male, Wint was discovered seated in his vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Wint was a father to two sons and was remembered by his family as a man with a "hearty laugh" and a "strong entrepreneurial spirit".
He was involved in his community, working with at-risk youth.
The investigation into the shooting led New Haven police to a suspect, Ronald Little. Little had also sustained a gunshot wound during the incident and had admitted himself to the hospital shortly after the shooting. Utilizing surveillance footage and other evidence, detectives were able to connect Little to the crime, and he was arrested a little over two weeks after Wint's death. He was subsequently charged with murder and several gun-related offenses.
Ronald Little stood trial for the murder of Michael Wint. During the trial, Little claimed that he acted in self-defense, stating that he saw Wint with a gun pointed at him as he approached Wint's car, allegedly to purchase PCP. However, prosecutors presented evidence, including surveillance video that showed Little approaching Wint's car and firing. The path of the bullet that struck Wint also suggested he was facing forward and not turned towards Little at the time of the shooting. In May 2025, a jury found Ronald Little guilty of murder. He was later sentenced to 55 years in prison for the killing of Michael Wint.
