On a summer afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut, a 22-year-old Black / African American woman named Ciera "Cece" Jones Whitfield was standing outside her home in the Hill neighborhood. It was July 5, 2021, and in a sudden burst of violence, she was shot in the head in broad daylight at the corner of Truman Street and Clover Place.
