On the evening of February 6, 2021, Kevin Jiang, a 26-year-old Asian man and a graduate student at Yale University, left his fiancée's apartment in New Haven, Connecticut. It was a day they had spent together, hiking and ice fishing. Just a week prior, Jiang had proposed to his fiancée, Zion Perry, and their future seemed bright.
