In the late summer afternoon of September 1, 2025, a burst of violence on a New Haven, Connecticut street cut short the life of 31-year-old Briquann Chapman, a Black male resident of the city. The incident unfolded around 1:44 p.m. in the 1600 block of Chapel Street, a scene that would soon be cordoned off by police investigators. Chapman had just stepped out of the Real Ryte Smoke Shop when he was confronted by an assailant who opened fire at close range.
