On the evening of November 8, 2022, Mark Pappacoda, a 61-year-old White male and lifelong resident of New Haven, Connecticut, was fatally shot in what police have described as an attempted robbery. The incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the parking lot of the GI Package Store located at 282 Ferry Street in the Fair Haven neighborhood.
Responding to a call of a person shot, New Haven police officers arrived at the scene to find Pappacoda on the ground and unresponsive, suffering
from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Investigators were able to secure surveillance footage from the area which, according to police, showed a suspect attempting to rob Pappacoda before the fatal shot was fired. In an effort to identify the person responsible, the New Haven Police Department released still images and video clips of the suspect to the public. The footage showed a man wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt underneath a dark jacket, at one point holding what appeared to be a handgun.
Despite the available footage and public appeals for information, the individual responsible for Mark Pappacoda's death has not been identified, and no arrests have been made in the case. The New Haven Police Department has continued to ask for the public's assistance, encouraging anyone with information to contact their Investigative Services Division. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by phone or text. The case remains an open and active homicide investigation.
