In the pre-dawn hours of Sunday, September 5, 2021, the life of Zaire Luciano, a 30-year-old male from the Northford section of North Branford, was tragically cut short. Just before 5:30 a.m., the sound of gunfire echoed through Chamberlain Street in New Haven, prompting multiple 911 calls. When police arrived at the scene, between Chamberlain Place and Forbes Avenue, they found Luciano struck by bullets.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Luciano was remembered by his family as the vibrant heart of their gatherings, a man who woke up every day with a smile and possessed an infectious sense of humor. He was a father to two sons and was engaged to be married. An aspiring musician and singer, he was known for his charitable nature and his ability to make everyone around him laugh. His loved ones described him as a humble and sweet man whose loss created an irreplaceable void in their family.
The New Haven Police Department's Investigative Services Division immediately began looking into the shooting, which was ruled a homicide, the 20th in the city that year. Authorities have stated that they believe Luciano was targeted. Despite their ongoing investigation and public appeals for any witnesses to come forward, no arrests have been made in connection with his death, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
