A young Hispanic man's life was tragically cut short on a Sunday morning in New Haven, Connecticut. On August 2, 2020, 22-year-old Carlos Gonzalez was found lying on a sidewalk on First Street in the Hill neighborhood. The first police officer arrived at the scene near Kimberly Avenue around 8:45 a.m. to find Gonzalez suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical crews quickly began to render aid to the young man. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Gonzalez was originally from New Haven and was a lifelong resident of the city. He had attended both Wilbur Cross and Common Ground high schools. At the time of his death, he had been living in Meriden.
New Haven Police Department's Major Crimes detectives and Bureau of Identification forensic detectives responded to the area to investigate the fatal shooting. The crime scene was extensive, covering parts of First Street as well as Kimberly, Greenwich, and Howard avenues. The police have reached out to the public for any information regarding the shooting. However, no arrests have been publicly announced, and no suspect or suspects have been officially named in connection with the death of Carlos Gonzalez.
