On a Sunday afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut, the life of 30-year-old Melvin Stanley, a Black / African American man, was tragically cut short. On October 17, 2021, police responded to a ShotSpotter alert and 911 calls about gunfire on Hazel Street, in the area between Shelton and Dixwell avenues, around 3:55 p.m. Arriving officers discovered Stanley inside a car, suffering from gunshot wounds.
