On the morning of May 30, 2019, Jordan Agnew, a 28-year-old Black/African American male from New Haven, Connecticut, was fatally shot in the city's Beaver Hills neighborhood. The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. near the intersection of Osborn Avenue and Blake Street. Agnew was driving his vehicle with a child in a rear car seat at the time of the shooting.
According to police reports, multiple gunshots were fired at Agnew's vehicle.
Despite being wounded, he managed to drive for about two blocks before his vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Osborn Avenue and Glenn Road. Responding officers found Agnew lying in the street outside of his car. He was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that day. The child in the vehicle was fortunately not physically harmed.
The New Haven Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Agnew's death, which was the city's third homicide of that year. Detectives from the Homicide Unit canvassed the neighborhood and established crime scenes at both the location of the shooting and where Agnew was found. In the days following the incident, police conducted an informational checkpoint at the intersection where the shooting occurred, distributing flyers and asking for the public's help for any information.
Biographical information released at the time of his death portrayed Agnew as a graduate of James Hillhouse High School who had also attended Johnson & Wales University. He was known by the nicknames "Mighty Mouse" or "Mighty." He was a father to three children and was survived by his parents, grandparents, and significant other. As of the most recent available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Jordan Agnew, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and arrest of a suspect or suspects.
