On a tragic Friday afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut, the life of 49-year-old Sean Peterson was cut short in a sudden act of violence. On July 7, 2023, Peterson, a Black male, was a passenger in an Acura MDX when he was fatally shot. The incident prompted a swift response from law enforcement after a 911 call was made at 12:38 p.m. reporting the shooting and that the victim was being transported to Yale New Haven Hospital.
Upon their arrival at the hospital's emergency room entrance,
police officers secured the Acura MDX as a crime scene. Inside the emergency room, medical staff worked to save Sean Peterson, but he ultimately succumbed to a single gunshot wound to his left rib cage. An investigation into the shooting was immediately launched by the New Haven Police Department's Investigative Services Division and the Bureau of Identification.
Through interviews with witnesses, investigators quickly identified the driver of the vehicle, William Brown, as the individual responsible for shooting his passenger, Sean Peterson. Brown was taken into custody at the scene and subsequently charged with murder and firearms-related offenses. He was held on a $1,000,000 bond. New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson described the event as a "tragic incident" and commended the investigators for their diligent work in bringing the suspect to justice.
