On the evening of April 4, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace at the intersection of Mather and Bedford streets in Hartford, Connecticut. When the chaos subsided, 33-year-old Jermaine Davis, a Black / African American male, was found unresponsive, the victim of a fatal drive-by shooting. The incident, which occurred shortly after 7 p.m., also left three other men wounded, though their injuries were not life-threatening.
Emergency services rushed all four victims to a local hospital, but Jermaine Davis was pronounced dead.
Hartford Police immediately launched an investigation, piecing together the events of that tragic evening. It is believed that multiple shooters exited an older model, light-colored Infiniti and opened fire on a group of people gathered at the intersection before fleeing the scene. The attack appeared to be targeted, though a specific motive has not been publicly disclosed. Sometime after the shooting, the suspected vehicle was discovered in South Windsor, having been intentionally set on fire and destroyed.
In the days that followed, Jermaine Davis was remembered as a bright and energetic man who was devoted to his family and friends. He was a father to two daughters, and his greatest joy in life was the time he spent with them. Known as a hard worker with a drive to succeed, he was employed as a manager at B-Good. His loved ones recalled his infectious smile and his desire to mentor others and see the best in them. He was also remembered for his love of basketball and playing the drums. As of this time, there have been no arrests made in connection with the murder of Jermaine Davis, and the investigation remains ongoing.
