On the morning of April 15, 2022, gunshots shattered the quiet of a Hartford, Connecticut neighborhood, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. Twenty-five-year-old Michael Foley was discovered unresponsive on the sidewalk in the 200 block of Sigourney Street, suffering from gunshot wounds. Rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead.
Investigators quickly determined that Foley was the intended target of the brazen daylight shooting, which occurred at approximately 11:39 a.m.
A second individual, a man in his 50s, was also struck by gunfire but sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities believe this second victim was an unintended casualty, simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The initial belief was that the suspect had fled the scene on foot, prompting a thorough investigation by the Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions.
The investigation into Michael Foley's death led to the apprehension of two suspects. On May 30, 2022, police arrested 23-year-old Corey Fairly, charging him with accessory to murder, accessory to first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal liability. His bond was set at $1.5 million. Several weeks later, on July 20, 2022, a second suspect, 27-year-old Chris Olds of East Hartford, was taken into custody. Olds faced more severe charges, including murder, first-degree assault, and criminal possession of a firearm, with his bond set at a formidable $2 million.
Remembered as a landscaper in the tree removal business, Michael Foley had a passion for the outdoors and an active life. He found joy in fishing, working out, and the thrill of riding motorcycles and motocross. His sudden and violent death was the city's 11th homicide of the year, leaving behind a grieving family and a community calling for an end to the senseless violence that had claimed another young life.
