In the late hours of a Sunday night in Hartford, Connecticut, the life of 20-year-old Hispanic male Johnny Rodriguez was tragically cut short. On January 26, 2025, just before 11 p.m., the city's ShotSpotter system detected gunfire near 1901 Broad Street, prompting a police response. Arriving officers discovered evidence of a shooting but found no victim at the scene.
A short time later, a dispatcher alerted the officers that a shooting victim had been located at the intersection of
Essex Street and Retreat Avenue. It is believed that someone was attempting to drive Rodriguez to the hospital when they were intercepted. Rodriguez was quickly transported to the nearby Hartford Hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead.
Investigators have since been working to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. According to police, video footage from the scene shows a large group of males involved in a fight when one individual pulled out a firearm. While authorities have this video, it has not been released to the public.
