In the early morning hours of a Sunday in Phoenix, Arizona, the sounds of gunfire shattered the quiet near a motel. Responding to the disturbance at approximately 1:30 a.m. at the Premiere Inn near West Peoria Avenue and the Black Canyon Highway, Phoenix police officers discovered a man in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. The injured man was identified as 41-year-old Rodney Wayne Puckett.
Emergency crews provided immediate medical assistance to Puckett at the scene before rushing him to a local hospital for further treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Rodney Wayne Puckett succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The incident, which began as an investigation into a shooting, quickly turned into a homicide case.
In the initial stages of the investigation, Phoenix police detained two individuals who were considered persons of interest. However, after questioning, both were released. The focus of the investigation then shifted to another individual. Authorities released a description of a person of interest they wished to speak with regarding the fatal shooting. This individual was described as a man with long, dreadlock-style hair who was seen wearing jeans at the time of the incident. Police appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and location of this person of interest.
