In the warmth of a Phoenix evening on June 9, 2024, a dispute escalated to a fatal conclusion, claiming the life of 37-year-old Tracy Jerome Walker. The Black / African American man was at a residence in the vicinity of 12th and Garfield streets when the tranquil evening was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Phoenix police officers were dispatched to the home around 5:30 p.m., where they discovered Walker suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced deceased.
At the scene of the shooting, officers detained 24-year-old Clayveion Dontae Hendrix. During the subsequent investigation, Hendrix reportedly made admissions to his responsibility in the shooting. He was later arrested and booked into jail on a murder charge. Investigators believe Hendrix was the sole individual involved in the incident and are not seeking any other suspects.
The conflict that led to the deadly encounter was reportedly a domestic dispute. According to some reports, the argument began when Hendrix and his sister became upset with Walker, who was his mother's boyfriend, for not bringing home fast food. The altercation allegedly escalated, with the sister reportedly hitting Walker with an extension cord shortly before Hendrix is said to have shot him.
