Murdered

Henderson Cleopita "Hence" Giles, a 35-year-old law enforcement officer with the Texarkana Police Department in Arkansas, was fatally shot on July 16, 1926, while attempting to arrest a bootlegger. The incident occurred early in the morning on East Broad Street in Texarkana. Giles had stopped a vehicle suspected of transporting illegal whiskey. During the arrest, the suspect drew a firearm and shot Officer Giles, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
