On October 30, 1925, Sheriff Elisha Franklin "Lish" Barber, aged 51, was fatally shot in Texarkana, Arkansas. While meeting with three individuals at a local business—identified as the former police chief of Texarkana and his two sons—an argument erupted, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Both Sheriff Barber and his Chief Deputy, Bob Smith, were killed in the confrontation.
