On a Tuesday in Texarkana, Arkansas, a family dispute over living arrangements escalated into a tragic and fatal confrontation. The day began with a call to the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department at 11:00 a.m. regarding a disturbance at a residence in the 1000 block of Cleveland Street. At the scene, officers were informed by a resident that she wished to evict her 31-year-old white grandson, Aaron Kidd, from the home.
The police explained the proper civil eviction procedures to the resident, advising her to go to the Miller County Courthouse to file the necessary paperwork.
Later that day, around 1:00 p.m., a second and more alarming 911 call was made from the same address. A concerned neighbor reported seeing a man lying in the front yard. When officers arrived back at the Cleveland Street home, they discovered a grim scene. In the front yard, they found the body of a man later identified as 36-year-old Darryll Kidd. He had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The tragedy deepened as officers entered the residence. Inside, they found Aaron Kidd deceased from a single gunshot wound. The investigation that followed pointed towards a murder-suicide. It is believed that Darryll, who was Aaron's uncle, had traveled to the residence, shot and killed his nephew, and then turned the weapon on himself in the front yard. As the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that Aaron Kidd was a registered sex offender with a past conviction for rape, according to Arkansas Department of Corrections records. The motive for the violent encounter appeared to be rooted in the family's desire for him to leave the residence. With the suspect, Darryll Kidd, also deceased at the scene, the investigation concluded without any arrests. The incident left the community shaken and a family grappling with a devastating loss.
