On a December afternoon in 2021, a verbal dispute in Texarkana, Arkansas, escalated into a fatal encounter for Donald Robie Haworth Jr., a 38-year-old male. The incident occurred on December 9th at a residence on Line Ferry Road. Deputies from the Miller County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene around 1:00 PM following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Haworth with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was promptly transported to St.
Michael Hospital for emergency surgery. Investigations into the events leading up to the shooting revealed that Haworth had been in a heated argument with another man, identified as 34-year-old Chris A. Basham. The confrontation reportedly intensified, with Haworth allegedly arming himself with a bat and Basham possessing a shotgun. The altercation culminated in Basham firing the weapon, striking Haworth.
In the immediate aftermath, Basham fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. However, he later established contact with the Miller County Criminal Investigation Division and arranged to meet with them at the sheriff's office. Investigators were also able to recover a weapon believed to have been used in the shooting. Based on the evidence gathered and statements from witnesses, Chris A. Basham was arrested and initially charged with first-degree battery. He was booked into the Miller County Detention Center.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Donald Robie Haworth Jr. succumbed to his injuries on December 14, 2021, which was also his 39th birthday. Following his death, the charges against Basham were upgraded to include murder and committing a terroristic act.
