On July 2, 2015, 40-year-old Michael "Scott" Roberts was found deceased in his home on Garland Street in Texarkana, Arkansas. Family members, concerned after unsuccessful attempts to reach him by phone, discovered his body. Roberts, a well-known local pilot who flew charter flights, had been shot multiple times. The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department (TAPD) initiated an investigation into his death, treating it as a homicide.
