On a summer evening in North Little Rock, Arkansas, the life of 19-year-old Charles Lamont Boyd Jr. was tragically cut short. On July 15, 2014, the young Black man was fatally shot in an incident that also resulted in another person being injured. The shooting took place on West 13th Street, and when North Little Rock police were dispatched to the scene around 8 p.m., they found Boyd, who was then rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Boyd, born on March 7, 1995, was a father to his child, Ca'melo Boyd, and was survived by his parents, Latricia Boyd and Charles Boyd Sr.
The North Little Rock Police Department immediately began an investigation into the homicide. In the weeks that followed, their efforts led them to a suspect. On August 6, 2014, authorities arrested 51-year-old Keith Charles Jones in connection with the fatal shooting of Boyd.
Following his arrest, Keith Charles Jones was charged with first-degree murder and was held at the Pulaski County Jail. While an arrest was made, law enforcement officials did not release a motive for the shooting. The investigation did not point to any other individuals being involved in the incident. The arrest of a suspect brought a sense of partial resolution to the community and to the family of Charles Lamont Boyd, though the question of why the young father was killed remained unanswered.
