In the summer of 2004, the life of 33-year-old Shauna-Marie Kowalski was abruptly and violently cut short in Phoenix, Arizona. On June 14 of that year, the young woman, a mother of three, was killed in an act of gun violence. Her death, described by grieving family members as a selfish act that took her away from them, left a void in the lives of her children, Elizabeth, Michael, and Khalid.
