In the summer of 2025, a sense of unease began to settle among those who knew Tiwyla Nicole Spencer, a 38-year-old female. Days had passed without a word, a call, or any sign of her presence, which was unusual for the Phoenix resident. This prolonged silence prompted a request for a welfare check at her apartment located at 1333 North 24th Street, near the intersection of 24th Street and McDowell Road.
On the morning of Thursday, June 26, 2025, an employee of the apartment complex, concerned for the well-being of the occupants, contacted the Phoenix Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers were met by the employee who unlocked the door to the apartment, allowing them to enter. Inside, they made a tragic discovery. Tiwyla Nicole Spencer and another woman, 36-year-old Marquisha Williams, were both found deceased. It was immediately apparent to the investigators that both women had sustained gunshot wounds. The scene was secured, and homicide detectives were called in to take over the investigation, beginning the painstaking process of piecing together the events that led to the two women's deaths.
As the investigation unfolded, the Phoenix Police Department worked in conjunction with the Medical Examiner's Office to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. While they publicly identified both victims, authorities remained tight-lipped about the specific details of the case, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. As of late June 2025, no information regarding a potential suspect had been released to the public. However, police did state that they did not believe there were any outstanding suspects and that there was no ongoing threat to the community.
