In a quiet Phoenix townhouse complex, a dispute over the everyday sounds of life spiraled into a devastating act of violence that claimed the lives of four family members. Renee Moore, a 36-year-old woman, was tragically killed on Saturday, October 26, 2013, in a shooting rampage carried out by her next-door neighbor. The senseless act also took the lives of her 66-year-old father, Bruce Moore, her 42-year-old husband, Michael Moore, and their 17-year-old son, Shannon Moore.
The family's two dogs were also killed in the attack.
The gunman was identified as 56-year-old Michael Dante Guzzo, a pharmacist who lived in the adjacent townhouse. Neighbors reported that Guzzo had a history of complaining about noise from pets in the complex, particularly the Moores' barking dogs. He had reportedly left notes complaining about the noise and frequently argued with pet owners. On that Saturday morning, his frustration escalated to an unimaginable level. Armed with a pump-action shotgun, Guzzo unleashed his rage on the Moore family.
After killing the family and their pets, Guzzo's violence did not end. He proceeded to fire several rounds into the door of another neighbor's home before returning to his own residence. When the Phoenix SWAT team later entered Guzzo's townhouse, they found him deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation concluded that the tragic event was a murder-suicide, with no further suspects sought. While the motive seems to stem from Guzzo's anger over barking dogs, Phoenix police have stated they may never know the exact reason for the deadly rampage.
