In the winter of 2024, the life of 32-year-old Levon Osuji, a Black / African American male, came to a tragic end in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On the afternoon of Saturday, December 14th, Milwaukee police were called to the scene of a shooting near 51st and Hadley. There they found Osuji suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The incident, which police later stated stemmed from an argument, cut short the life of a man known to some as "2 Pooh," who was remembered for always smiling and his love for bonding and rapping.
The investigation into the shooting took a surprising turn when a 12-year-old boy was taken into custody in connection with the fatal event. The young age of the individual arrested brought immediate attention to the case, raising numerous questions about the circumstances that could lead to such a violent outcome. As the details emerged, it became clear that the narrative was far more complex than a simple act of aggression.
Further investigation by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office revealed a history of domestic violence. Court records indicated that Osuji had previous charges and convictions for domestic abuse and stalking, including incidents where he had reportedly choked, hit, and pointed a gun at a woman, as well as repeatedly striking a woman with a hammer. In light of this history, the district attorney's office concluded that the 12-year-old boy had acted in defense of his mother. Consequently, the boy was released from custody on Wednesday, December 18, and no charges were filed against him. A neighbor commented on the situation, stating that she believed the boy was protecting his mother and, faced with the harm being inflicted upon her, likely did what he felt he had to do to keep her safe. The case, which began as a homicide investigation, concluded with a determination that the shooting was a justifiable act of defense in the face of domestic violence.
