The perpetrator of this tragic event was identified as Carmen Arvelo-Schwingle, Arturo's half-sister and Hermalinda's stepdaughter.
On the morning of March 5, 2016, Miguel Arvelo, Arturo's father, returned home to find his wife and son suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The Milwaukee Police Department quickly identified Carmen Arvelo-Schwingle as the suspect. She had a history of mental illness and had attempted suicide just two weeks prior to the incident. Following the murders, Carmen Arvelo-Schwingle committed suicide at McKinley Marina.
