On November 25, 2024, at approximately 10:58 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a reported shooting at the Bridge at Granada Apartments, located at 414 East Wonsley Drive in North Austin. Upon arrival, they discovered 20-year-old Xavier Jones Sr. inside the residence, deceased from a gunshot wound.
Preliminary investigations revealed that multiple unidentified individuals forcibly entered Jones's apartment by shooting through the sliding glass door.
During the intrusion, the assailants shot and killed Jones. After the shooting, they reportedly stole jewelry from his person before fleeing the scene.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspects remain unidentified. APD has classified this incident as the city's 65th homicide of the year and is actively seeking information from the public to aid in the investigation. They encourage anyone with relevant details to contact the department at 512-974-TIPS or to submit information anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
The tragic death of Xavier Jones Sr. has left the community in mourning. An obituary notes that he was born on April 16, 2004, and passed away on November 25, 2024, at the age of 20. Services to honor his memory were scheduled for December 13, 2024, at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Austin.
