On November 18, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Portsmouth Fire Department personnel responded to a dumpster fire adjacent to the Bethel Worship Center Church on Pepperwood Court in Portsmouth, Virginia. Upon extinguishing the flames, they discovered the body of 45-year-old Kurtis Lee Watson inside the dumpster. An autopsy revealed that Watson had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head, back, thigh, and foot, indicating he was deceased prior to the fire.
