In the early hours of a Wednesday morning, a burst of violence shattered the pre-dawn quiet in Portsmouth, Virginia, claiming the life of Lorenzo Bernat. On February 28, 2018, the 26-year-old man found himself in the 1900 block of Victory Boulevard where he sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his abdomen. In a desperate attempt to survive, Bernat managed to get himself to Chesapeake General Hospital.
The severity of his injury prompted a swift transfer to the specialized trauma center at
Norfolk General Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the damage was too great, and shortly after his arrival, Lorenzo Bernat succumbed to his injuries. He was a resident of nearby Virginia Beach.
