On a Wednesday evening in Portsmouth, Virginia, tragedy struck in the 2100 block of Elm Avenue. On June 18, 2025, shortly after 5:15 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the neighborhood's calm. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One of them, a 39-year-old man named Omar Tyron Evans, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim, 43-year-old Alice Otealia Watson, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of her
injuries. Sadly, she later succumbed to her wounds and also passed away. The double homicide left the community in shock and mourning the loss of two lives. Detectives from the Portsmouth Police Department's Major Crime Unit immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shootings.
In the days following the incident, authorities began their search for those responsible. They appealed to the public for assistance in identifying two male suspects who were captured on surveillance footage. The first suspect was described as a Black man wearing gray joggers, black shoes, a black zip-up hoodie, and a black Nike mask. The second suspect was also a Black man, seen wearing black pants with a white logo on the left thigh, a black Nike hoodie, and a black mask. Police stated that both men should be considered armed and dangerous.
Investigators also revealed that the suspects were seen leaving the area in an early 2000s white Mercedes-Benz ML 550. The vehicle had tinted windows and a noticeably damaged rear window wiper. As part of their ongoing investigation, detectives also announced they were seeking to question 57-year-old Chere Williams in connection with the double homicide. The search for the suspects and the person of interest continues as police work to bring justice for Omar Tyron Evans and Alice Otealia Watson.
