On December 17, 2024, at approximately 3:31 p.m., 21-year-old Amari Maxwell was fatally shot in the zero block of Traverse Road in Newport News, Virginia. Officers responding to the scene found Maxwell suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Newport News Police Department initiated a homicide investigation. As of December 28, 2024, no arrests have been made,
