In the early morning hours of September 18, 2022, a sense of unease settled over a neighborhood in Phoenix, Arizona, as the sound of gunshots pierced the pre-dawn quiet. Responding to a call around 4 a.m., police arrived at the 2600 block of North 53rd Avenue to a grim scene. There, they discovered the bodies of 19-year-old Madali Acosta Robles and 21-year-old Francisco Martinez Velasquez. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
