On December 8, 2024, a tragic home invasion occurred in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, resulting in the death of 25-year-old Andrew Gaudio and critical injuries to his 61-year-old mother, Bernadette. The assailants, Kelvin Roberts, 42, of Philadelphia, and his co-worker, 41-year-old Charles Fulforth of Jenkintown, mistakenly targeted the Gaudio residence, believing it contained a cache of firearms.
Employed by a junk hauling service, the perpetrators had intended to rob a different home but ended up at the wrong address.
In the early hours of that Sunday, the intruders entered the Gaudio home through the basement. Bernadette, bedridden due to a medical condition, was awakened by a man in a black hoodie who shot her multiple times without provocation, leaving her paralyzed. Her son, Andrew, attempted to protect her but was fatally shot five times, including once in the back of the head as he lay face down on the floor. Despite her severe injuries, Bernadette managed to call 911 using voice commands on her cellphone, with the attackers heard rummaging through the house during the call.
The assailants fled the scene with a jewelry box and the family's 2004 Jeep Cherokee, which was later recovered in West Philadelphia. Investigators traced a vehicle seen leaving the crime scene to a Philadelphia residence linked to Roberts, where they found the stolen jewelry box. At Fulforth's apartment, authorities discovered a 3D printer, tools for making unregistered "ghost guns," and a 9mm ghost gun believed to have been used in Andrew's murder.
Both Roberts and Fulforth have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery, burglary, and related offenses. They are being held without bail. The community has rallied around the Gaudio family, with friends organizing a fundraising campaign to support them during this difficult time. As of mid-December, the campaign had raised over $86,500 to assist with funeral costs, medical expenses, and Bernadette's ongoing care.
This tragic incident has left the Wynnewood community in mourning, highlighting the devastating impact of violent crime and the resilience of those affected.
