On the evening of November 25, 2024, at approximately 8:29 p.m., Columbus police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1200 block of North 4th Street, near Weinland Park. Upon arrival, officers discovered 20-year-old Anthony Wise suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:10 p.m.
Investigations revealed that Wise had been gathered with friends at the Weinland Park shelter house when an altercation occurred. During this dispute, a member of the group, identified as 20-year-old Daveon Murphy, allegedly produced a handgun and opened fire, striking Wise. Following the shooting, Murphy and other witnesses fled into the surrounding neighborhood.
The following day, November 26, 2024, Columbus SWAT officers apprehended Murphy in the 1900 block of Agler Road. He was charged with murder and is currently held in the Franklin County Jail on a $2 million bond. Court records indicate that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Wise and Murphy.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Wise's death and have requested that anyone with information or relevant video footage from the area come forward to assist in the investigation.
